Oregon ACDA members saddened at the loss of these choral leaders

Jerry Weseley Harris, composer, editor, teacher at Franklin, Sunset, and Beaverton High Schools  dies January 19, 2021

Composer and outstanding director of choirs at three different schools (Franklin HS, Sunset HS, and Beaverton HS) in  Portland and Beaverton died this past January 19th at the age of 87.

Many of Jerry's compositions and arrangements can be found in  choral libraries across the country.  He has over 950 compositions published by various publishers, including his own, Northwest Music, founded in 1998.

After receiving his EdD degree from the U of O, he moved with his family to Moscow, Idaho where he was professor of Music Education at the University of Idaho. 

Jerry also served for a time as an adjunct professor in music education at Portland State University. He was active in the OMEA, and a life-time member of ACDA. He served as editor of NW Notes, the newsletter for NWACDA for over ten years.

He was Director of adult choirs at St. Matthew Lutheran Church and at Murray Hills Christian Church.

Dr. Bruce Browne
(1941-2020)

The choral community of Oregon, and indeed, the country, was profoundly saddened to hear of the death of Dr. Bruce Browne. Bruce died Monday, November 23rd at St. Vincent Hospital in Beaverton.

Bruce was a recipient of the ORACDA "Hall of Fame" Award  October 24th, 2020.

 

He was indeed a legend in the northwest as a conductor, a teacher, and a promoter of choral music.
